Race #3 - Savannah, GA

Our road trip began after work on a Thursday with four girls and a male “running club member-in-training”. He jokingly wore a special badge and would later be initiated into our drop and go philosophy when traveling to destination races. We did, however, go easy on him, since he was our driver. And, he followed along with the fun by inciting a pillow fight.

There was much to see and do in Savannah. We ate to our hearts' content by filling up on some fine fried chicken at The Pirate’s House, soup and sandwiches at The Mellow Mushroom and even more fried chicken at Sisters. Of course, there was a stop at every candy shop to snag yet another fresh, warm praline.

It was a cold race weekend so we upped the ante with a hot toddy, followed by a ghost tour in a hearse. We also toured unique art galleries and studios and found a quaint shoppe for our traditional wine tasting excursion.

Never have I run a race and felt such community support. Our trolley tour driver gave us an emotional thank you for participating in this inaugural half marathon. Store owners and restaurant workers catered to us throughout our stay. The smiles of the spectators kept our hearts warmed despite the frigid temperatures. Neighborhoods came out in full force to hold signs, cheer us on and offer us snacks, water and beer. The miles flew by and we toasted another great race at Molly MacPherson’s Scottish Pub.
