Race #2 - Nashville, TN

It was a girls’ weekend! Our running group for this race consisted of six and the two hotel rooms were across from each other. Since no one would decide who was rooming together, we tossed the hotel keys on the floor and tried the doors to see which room we were in - and so started our long weekend adventure.

The ladies, free from the duties of being spouses, mothers and employees, were able to make the most of the available time, playing tourist like never before. We walked up and down Honky Tonk Row, stopping to enjoy the music at Tootsie’s and The Stage. We line-danced at The Wildhorse Saloon. We toured BelleMead Plantation and The Country Music Hall of Fame. We even got to meet Mark Wills on our behind the scenes tour after The Grand Ole Opry show.

By chance, we chatted up the race founder, Dawna, on the way back to our hotel one evening after munching on the best cake batter ice cream around. Oh yeah, we had a little race to run! It was the Womens’ Running Magazine Half Marathon. The course was great, a little hilly at the end, but I came within a minute and a half of my PR, so it wasn’t too bad.

We celebrated a successful weekend at Arrington Vineyards, founded by Kix Brooks. Toasting our accomplishment with some sweet blackberry and raspberry wines, the girls and I vowed to plan our next race sooner rather than later.
